4 Sep 2007 - Earthquake @ The Close

Earthquake @ The Close

The ground shook at The Close in early September but did not quite reach the Richter scale. In an attempt to improve the camping condition of the principle fields and to aid drainage. The Management Committee employed a specialist contractor to slit the fields and at the same time earthquake the sub-soil. Not as some in the County thought with explosives but vibration as the concentric cutters moved through the earth. All that can be seen at present are lines where the cutters have been and will disappear in a short period of time.

Members of our Service Crew have spent many a happy(?) hour raking weeds and clearing rubbish from the field ditches, cutting away shrubbery that have grown and blocked channels, digging out and making good culverts. As a precursor for the Earthquake Machine, to make your stay more enjoyable and hopefully reduce the water logging that has occurred. Which regrettably has caused us to cancel some group camps that had been booked, with the resulting loss of revenue.
