Coventry Scouts say “THANKYOU” to telent
The City of Coventry Scout County, Rough Close Campsite, has been the recipient of a very generous donation of two former telephone exchange cabins and two cycle shelters. This equipment has been donated by telent who are moving their premises from Coventry to Warwick. The cabins and shelters were identified as being redundant and telent sought a way for them to be used. An approach was made to Coventry Scout County by the Building Services Manager telent.
The County Executive decided that this equipment would be of use at our County campsite and made arrangements with Plant Installations Ltd to move the cabins to the site. In early February one mobile crane, two lorries and an escort vehicle were used to transport them to the campsite. Members of the County Management Team, Rough Close Service Crew and Friends of Rough Close were on hand to assist. It took about an hour and a half for the vehicles to travel from Tanners Lane to the main car park, and it was not because of the state of the track. The cabins were 4 metres WIDE and as they were on the back of the lorries were about 5 metres HIGH so pruning of some trees was essential. As can be seen from the photographs we had to remove a couple of trees to facilitate passage of the vehicles along Memorial Avenue and onsite. The operation started at 8am and was completed by 1pm “Thankyou & Well Done” to all involved.
The intention is to use the cabins as storage for the County archives and display of some of the scouting memorabilia.
